Professional career

After completing a degree in Business Studies at the University of Westminster in 1992 I started training as an accountant at a medium sized practice in Buckinghamshire. I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 1998 and moved to industry securing a position as financial controller, being promoted to Finance Director in 2005, of a group of companies involved in the manufacture, sale, hire and service of dry waste handling vehicles. The group employed 150 people over multiple nationwide sites and had an annual turnover of £25m.

In 2006 competition within the market increased as a result of development of cheaper manufacturing facilities on the continent, as a consequence of this parts of the group were sold and other parts placed into administration. As part of the restructuring I negotiated my exit from the group after successful completion of the sale and eventual liquidation of the residual parts of the group and set up Martell Accountancy Services.
